A small aikuchi-mounted tanto its black-lacquer saya, with silver kogai, covered at random with old-lacquered plum blossoms. Carved in heavy relief, the silver fittings continue the floral imagery on the saya, creating a remarkable tribute to the maker’s love of nature. The blade, with silver habaki, is deeply carved with a yari-head and archaic characters. Length, 9.25". Edo/Meiji Period.
