A remarkable representation of a shodana, its form, doors and drawers identical to those of an actual piece of furniture. Framed in patterned, two-toned gold, the iron doors and drawers are incised and gold-inlaid with scenes from nature: lakeside scenes with boats, floral sprays and a samurai on horseback with attendant. Mt Fuji and a writhing dragon cover the underside in kaga-inlaid gold while on the top shelf in high relief, a fabulously-sculptured parrot poses on craggy, raised rockwork. Height, 4.75"; length, 6.25"; depth, 2.5". Meiji Period.
