Yabu Meizan Covered Box - Meiji Period
A rare and major covered box of rectangular form by the beloved Yabu Meizan. On the cover, surrounded by his typical diamond- patterned border, a group of artisans worked in gilt and soft colors is aesthetically positioned. Painters, calligraphers, musicians, furniture movers – even a dog and its owner at play - all are prime objects of his attention. Within the box, song birds flit among maple tree branches. This masterful box represents the great artist’s homage to everyman, to artists and to nature. Yabu Meizan gold cartouche on base. Height, 2.25"; length, 5.125"; width, 3.5". Includes a rare calling card for the Master. Meiji Period.
