Gold Lacquered Two-Tiered Kobako with Nashiji - 19th century

A gold-lacquered, two-tiered kobako with nashiji interiors and silver mounts. Pine barrens on its lid line a winding river covered by a long, curved bridge, its sides and inner tray with plovers among heavy clouds. On the second tier, two small covered boxes continue with similar imagery. The entire assemblage utilizes almost all of the lacquer artist’s time-consuming techniques. Height, 3"; length,5"; width, 3.5". Owner’s box. 19th century.
