An exceptional two-panel Japanese screen worked in mineral colors and gold leaf on paper. Three vividly-colored and executed shishi cavort with butterflies on a glowing gold ground, the muscular lion dogs defined by bold sumi-e outlines and by spontaneous, fluid brushwork. Signature, Yoshimura Shuke I (dated 1795). Height, 67"; length, 72". Edo Period.
