wood, gold lacquer and mother-of-pearl encrusted figural - Meiji Period
A remarkable wood, gold lacquer and mother-of-pearl encrusted figural sculpture of the famed Chinese General Kwanyu and his retainer. Situated on gold-lacquered wood stands, the extraordinary modeling of the figures conveys the appearance of parcel-gilt bronze, the actual wood medium an unexpected surprise. Unsigned. Heights, 15". Meiji Period.
