Pair of Satsuma Vases - Ryozan signature - Meiji Period
A pair of powerfully-wrought Satsuma vases of rectangular form rendered with delicate precision of towns people and natural subjects on four sides of each. Despite the populated subject matter used here and so often identifiable with this Satsuma master, the fine, painterly delineations of the subjects together with the gentle palette, contribute to their uniqueness. Ryozan signatures on bases. Heights, 9.5"; widths, 4.5". Meiji Period.
