A Japanese Pair of Bronze and Parcel-Gilt Oni - Miya-o Signature - Meiji Period
A pair of heroic bronze and parcel-gilt oni with raging silver eyes, gold horns and gilt-flaming torches posture upon gold-lacquer wood stands, symbolic orbs of spume high over their heads. Their slim, copper-patinated bodies are adorned with textured bronze collars, their skirts festooned with gold ribbons, water wheels and sea flora. Gold plaques of Miya-o Eisuke on reverse of each figure. Heights, 19.75". Meiji Period.
