A Japanese Metelwork Bottle-Form Vase - Meiji Period
A metalwork bottle-form vase, its neck and mounts rendered in pure silver. Upon its rounded iron body, a male mandarin duck inflates his plumage rendered in raised silver, gold, shakudo and red enamel. Nearby, his mate, also in relief, dives among delicate marsh reeds, flowers rising from stylized waters. On the reverse, in high relief, a lone egret sculpt in silver, gold and shakudo is silhouetted against the sky. Incised silver signature Issei on base. Height, 8.5". Meiji Period.
